My First 'My Geek Box'

Today I'd like to tell you about "My Geek Box", an excellent subscription service for geeks like myself. Here's how they describe it over on their website (

"MyGeekBox is the coolest subscription box out there. Each month, we send you a mystery box filled to the brim with geek gear, including a limited edition t-shirt in your chosen size.

Every month we choose a different theme: from zombies, to superheroes, to video games and even your favourite films. It's not only the theme which changes from month to month, either - each box is unique, filled with a fresh batch of awesomeness."

Sounds great, right?

I subscribed in time for August's "Quests" themed box, and the following post is about the items I received.

Upon opening the box, the first item(s) I saw on top was this collection of Hobbit postcards. Now, this is where I hold my hands up and say I've never watched the Lord of the Rings films, or the Hobbit ones, but I do quite like the map postcard. Together they would look good when placed in a frame, don't you think?

Item number two instantly looks like a Game of Thrones bookmark, and on further inspection and a sniff test, it still looks like a bookmark. If, I'm missing something, and it's not a bookmark, then please let me know.

The third item to be pulled from my mystery box was a small box of "Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans" from the Harry Potter universe. I enjoyed most of the Harry Potter films, and as a lover of jelly beans I look forward to trying most of these 'interesting' flavours.

Up next was the white T-shirt in my chosen size (I'll never tell), which after unfolding turned out to be a cool shirt spoofing Reservoir Dogs but entitled "Rivendell Dogs", and features some familiar faces from 'Lord of the Rings'.

Finally, I reached in for the biggest item and pulled out this adorable 'Funko Pop Vinyl' of Ghost from Game of Thrones. Again, I'm going to get a lot of flack for this, but I still haven't made it through the first season of Game of Thrones. However, I love this little guy and he shall definitely find a new home on/near my desk.

Overall, despite having never seen Lord of the Rings or most of Game of Thrones, I'm actually happy with my first 'Geek Box'. The excitement of knowing it had been delivered while I was at work, and the anticipation of getting home and opening it was at a pretty high level.

When they say the box items would cost more than the subscription fee, they aren't wrong. I could easily see the t-shirt or the 'Funko Pop Vinyl' costing the same as the full box.

I'm hugely looking forward to next month when the chosen theme is 'Apocalypse' and will likely include more great items. When the time comes, I'll be showing you what I received either here, or via the medium of YouTube with an unboxing video.

If you subscribe to 'My Geek Box' already, and you received different items to me, I'd love to hear from you.
